SECUNDERABAD: Just a few hours before the deadline for withdrawing nominations, senior
Congress leader Sarvey Satyanarayana withdrew his name from Secunderabad Cantonment assembly bypoll and Malkajgiri Parliament constituency on Monday.
“I have decided to withdraw both nominations based on instructions of the Congress party high command. I will extend my cooperation to the Congress candidates,” Sarvey told TOI.
The veteran politician, a former MP from Malkajgiri, had earlier slammed the state leadership’s decision to nominate defectors Ganesh (from BJP) and Sunitha (from BRS) instead of Congress leaders.
While turning rebel, he had also announced his plan to start a ‘Save Democracy and Save Congress’ movement.
Sarvey’s decision to withdraw as a rebel comes as a huge relief for Congress.
According to Sarvey’s close aides, the AICC general secretary in charge of Telangana, Deepa Dasmunsi, was supposed to visit his house at Mahendra Hills in Secunderabad Cantonment.
But she deferred the visit due to Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi’s visit in Telangana on Monday.
